Shires Tom Thumb Brass Alloy Leverage Bit.

This bit is a cross between the American gag and the Elevator. It is a popular show jumping and cross country bit as it offers more control and precision.

The bit has a lifting effect in front ideal good for show jumping as they can sit the horse more on its hocks and turn tight. The cheeks reinforce the turning aids and will not pull through the mouth. It is also used generally for horses that tend to lean due to its uplifting action.

The mouthpiece is slim so it is quite active over the bars. The lozenge in the centre contours the tongue reducing pressure from the sensitive outer edges and forms a true contact enabling clearly defined aids to be given through the rein. This helps with lightness and lift whilst still encouraging a contact.

The Shires Bit is made with a brass alloy to produce a more palatable bit that is warmer in the mouth than stainless steel for the horse and helps to encourage acceptance and salivation. Copper is alloyed with brass to produce a durable metal bit.
